It's both a bit exciting and a bit surreal that all the way over the hills, in a community that we don't yet really know as food customers, we are now selling veggies again after our 3 year hiatus.
And in so many ways, it all feels oddly reminiscent of that year 11 long years ago when we started this wild farming gig, with literally nothing more than a wing and a prayer to go on, being completely undereducated and underprepared for the jump from gardener--permaculturists to small business csa-market growers. Just full-on idealists ready for anything. It took us for quite the journey, yo!
And it's not so much this, the level of prepared and knowledgable part, that feels similar. Now that all feels like a very comfortable second skin we will always wear, ever able to grow the food, know its ups and downs, roll with the seasons. But being at a new market, unknown, explaining certain crops we came to take for granted as CSA and market staples. It's a lot of deja vu.
And much like our very first year got us in the local newspaper in our hometown, the first week of market this year had me asked for this photo op. And all of sudden, there's a tourist rag out on the coast with my face on it and some of those May steadies we adore::radish, green garlic, turnip, and our salad mix extraordinaire.
Life is always, always weird. Lesson one kids. The more comfortable you are with is, the less off guard the winding road will catch you.

GALIUMS 💚💚💚 Itty bitty cleavers (Galium aparine) in flower. I made a batch of cleavers tincture on the last full moon in Scorpio, but had to make another batch during this new moon in Taurus because I wanted to get some in flower. Gonna combine them in the end.
And it's funny. I am remaking the logo for the farm, and its basically a full circle ouroboros, and I've been toying with the 4 plants I would have on either side of this, really wanting to include those that felt like soul plants for me, or just the ones that have really reached out to me and been a part of my journey. Borage. Mugwort. Tulsi. For sure. But I couldn't think of the fourth. Thought maybe wild rose because it's just always 💞
Then, when I was making this last batch of cleavers anything for the season, I remembered that this was actually the very, very, very first plant that told me I needed it, as actual physical medicine for my actual physical body, not my spirit and emotions and all, like the others.
And it's still a really clear and needed plant for me. In fact, much as I am want to do, I forget to medicine my body plenty, getting so easily disembodied hanging out in the ethers. It wishes I wouldn't and continually reminds me.
Now. The other Galium that I have been drying is Sweet Woodruff (Galium odoratum). And odorific it is. Such different beings. It's going into ritual bath salts and dream pillows because it's got a lot to impart and say and that's where. I am such a slow slow slow herbalist, like picking up tiny threads over the very long road. And that means that although I have had this growing for so many years, I have only ever harvested it one other year, for a batch of May wine, that honestly, felt much too strong. I'm just not that into taking this plant internally. But this year, much like the cleavers so many years back, the plant itself reached out to me. And this is the way I get to it.
And, so, I found out, or became awake to the pretty obvious fact, just this season, that they are related. Sweet loves 💚
